The Region 4 Office is pleased to announce that Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg, principal at Flint Hill Elementary School, has been selected as the new principal of Centre Ridge Elementary School, effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Hertzberg has over 20 years of experience in education, beginning her career as an elementary school teacher at Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).  She worked at various FCPS schools, serving as a classroom teacher at both the primary and upper grades, and in general education and advanced academic programs.  She transitioned to the educational leadership path by serving as assistant principal at Providence Elementary School and then Centre Ridge Elementary School, both Title 1 schools. She became principal of Flint Hill Elementary School in 2017 where she has been for the past five years.

Dr. Hertzberg has a deep knowledge of the science of reading and also is passionate about access to rigor for all students.  During her five years as principal of Flint Hill, she helped to create the “Flint Hill Portrait of a Graduate” and associated building blocks (Social and Emotional Learning, Creating Thinkers and Learners, and Literacy) to streamline a vision for Flint Hill. In addition, she helped create school-embedded professional learning and brought various programmatic supports to the school.  Under her leadership, her school earned the Superintendent’s Excellence in Equity Award for being one of the top 10 schools with the most significant reduction in the achievement gap in English. Dr. Hertzberg was honored this year as the Outstanding Elementary Principal for the Madison pyramid and was also nominated by SEPTA (Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association) as Outstanding Elementary Administrator.

Dr. Hertzberg brings with her not only five years of successful principal experience at her current school, but also a true passion and heart for the Centre Ridge community.  She is excited to return to Centre Ridge Elementary School and honored to serve as principal. She is looking forward to partnering with families and staff in order to advance student academic success and promote the community’s commitment to equity.  In her free time, Dr. Hertzberg enjoys travel, reading, and doing anything crafty.

Dr. Hertzberg holds a Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of Virginia and an Education Specialist, Master’s, and Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg as the new principal at Centre Ridge Elementary School.

Sincerely,
Penny Gros
